Response of Maize-Green Gram Intercropping to Manure and Mineral Fertilizers in Post Mined Soils

Mining is an important economic activity globally that associated with provision of raw materials, industrial growth, employment creation as well degradation natural ecosystems and agricultural land. A study was conducted at Base Titanium limited mining company to evaluate the response maize-green intercrop farmyard manure mineral fertilizer in post mined soils. Treatments were sole manure, inorganic fertilizer, + unfertilized (control) laid down randomised complete block design (RCBD) replicated three times. Data collected included soil nutrients before after cropping, maize green grams growth yield parameters. Obtained data subjected analysis variance using genstat software means separated Fisher's LSD. The soils slightly acidic optimal levels Ca, Mg, Mn Zn, Low P,K, S, B,Cu, CEC, TN organic matter. After two cropping seasons, S observed increase all treatments, while Mn, B Zn decreased treatments. Combined application increased average plant height, stem circumference LAI by 38%, 34%, 60% respectively ears per plant, cob length, grains cob, grain dry matter weight 57%, 13%, 47%, 31% 35% compared plants. Green intercropping system however not significant either and/or application. Although findings showed manures fertilizers improved nutrient availability this soils, further research required ascertain maize–green gram intercrop, establishment time, spacing, rates can provide regeneration.
